What is ASSE 12080?
ASSE 12080 is a new Professional Qualifications Standard that outlines the minimum qualifications needed, including knowledge and competency, to become a member of a water safety team involved in the development of a risk assessment analysis, and water management and sampling plan, for protection from Legionella and other waterborne pathogens. This guideline was introduced in April 2020 by ASSE International, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
What is covered in the ASSE 12080 Legionella Water Safety and Management Certification Program?

The program focuses on the development of a risk assessment analysis, and water management and sampling plan, for protection from Legionella and other waterborne pathogens.
Who provides the training and examination?
This training is a joint effort that is provided by The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), in conjunction with Special Pathogens Laboratory (SPL). The training is lead by SPL President, Dr. Janet Stout, a pioneer in the field of Legionella research with over 30 years of experience.
